Step back, allow Fubara govern without interference – PDP chieftain to Wike

Leading PDP figure Chief Emeka Charles Kalu has urged Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to concentrate on his official responsibilities and give Siminalayi Fubara, the current governor of Rivers State, unhindered interference in governing the people of Rivers State.

The appeal comes after the continuing dispute between Governor Fubara and Governor Wike intensified recently when three local government buildings were set on fire following the end of local council elections.

As the Director-General of Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG) and the National Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO), Kalu has expressed grave concern about the escalating tensions in Rivers State, pointing out that the unrest is interfering with the state’s peace and governance.

Though built with public cash, Kalu regretted the loss of the local government headquarters. He stressed the transient nature of political power and the need to exercise caution when using it.

“Political power is transient, and like life itself, it cannot be held permanently by one individual,” Kalu told Daily Independent.

He added: “When Chief Wike was governor, he managed to complete his eight years in office without clashing with key stakeholders. He should now allow Sim Fubara the same opportunity to fulfil his campaign promises to the people.”

The continuing conflict in Rivers State, Kalu emphasised, could be addressed if Wike stopped meddling in Governor Fubara’s administration and concentrated on his duties as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

He reminded Wike that Abuja’s security and development demands are top priority and required all of his focus.

“As a father figure, Chief Wike should step back and allow Governor Fubara to govern without interference or the use of federal power to undermine democratic processes,” Kalu stated.

He also urged the federal government, led by the APC, to step in and make sure Wike stops his engagement in Rivers State politics to stop additional disruptions to Fubara’s administration.
