Rivers: I will burn my wig, gown as mark of protest against Wike – Lawyer

Must read

A human rights advocate and lawyer of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, A. Makitani, residing in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has called out the Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike, for accusing Similanayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers, of disobeying the rule of law and inciting violence in Rivers State.

In a video seen by AFRIPOST, the human rights advocate and lawyer blamed Nyesom Wike for all the political crisis and violence going on in Rivers State. He insisted that the FCT minister remains “A disgrace to the Nigerian legal profession.”

A. Makitani went on to question how Nyesom Wike became a life bencher and those in authority who bestowed Wike the position of a life bencher in the Nigerian legal institution while asking what was considered before conferring the position of a life bencher on Nyesom Wike.

He further accused the FCT minister as ruling as an emperor during his 8 years tenure in Rivers State. He called on the body of benchers in Nigeria to rise and remove Nyesom Wike as a life bencher.

The Lawyer said, “I want to do a sharp focus on what is happening in Rivers State, and I want to address my professional colleague in the person of Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and those who are supporting him.

“I listened to the outburst on a television interview yesterday squaring the crisis in Rivers state on the present governor that he is not respecting the rule of law, which is the root of the crisis in Rivers state. I listened very carefully, and this point very clearly to me that juxtaposing all these together, I insist that you’re a huge disgrace to the legal profession.

“With this, I now understand the frustrating thought hanging around my mental state where I have indicated my readiness as a mark of protest to openly burn my wig and gown as to what is happening here in Nigeria. I now understand why people say that lawyers should be killed, and this is because of the behaviour and attitude of lawyers like you; I am talking about the FCT minister in the person of Nyesom Wike.”
