Police detains two persons over alleged attempt to steal tricycle

The Lagos State police have confirmed the detention of two persons with disabilities (PWDs) in connection with an attempted tricycle theft from another disabled individual.

In a statement on Sunday, police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the victim reported the incident to the Denton Police Division on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.

According to the victim, on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., he had given a ride to three disabled men from Boson Roundabout, Oyingbo, to the Third Mainland Bridge.

Initially, he had refused their request to be dropped at the bridge, but later changed his mind.

As the tricycle approached the bridge intersection, one of the suspects allegedly produced a cable wire in an attempt to strangle the rider.

A struggle ensued, during which the rider managed to turn the tricycle back towards Okobaba and apprehended two of the suspects, while the third fled.

Following the incident, the police detained the two suspects and took their statements. Preliminary investigations indicate that the trio may be involved in a pattern of snatching tricycles from unsuspecting individuals.

SP Hundeyin added that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the third suspect.
