‘Mummy, leave me alone’ – El-Rufai’s Wife, Shehu Sani spar on X over grammatical error

Hadiza El-Rufai, the former First Lady of Kaduna State, has found herself in a public debate with Senator Shehu Sani on X (formerly Twitter).

The disagreement started when Sani, who previously represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, posted a lighthearted comment regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s international travels, claiming they had a direct effect on the economy, especially in terms of taxes and commodity prices.

Sani wrote, “New law of economics; When the President travels out, Taxes and Prices goes up.”

El-Rufai, known for her frequent grammar corrections on social media, swiftly pointed out a mistake in Sani’s post. She corrected him, stating that the phrase should be “go up” rather than “goes up.”

In his reply, Sani, addressing her as “mummy,” playfully asked her to stop intervening in his posts. He added that despite both having unfollowed each other, she still continued to engage with him.

Sani responded, “I unfollowed you and you unfollowed me. And you still de hang around me. Mummy, leave me alone abeg.”
