How bandits attacked hometown of former army spokesman, killed six

The hometown of former army spokesperson Brigadier-General Sani Kukasheka, Kukasheka, Katsina State, saw a sad tragedy take place late on Sunday night when armed bandits lay siege to the community.

Six people, including Kukasheka’s younger brother, were killed in the attack, which happened at approximately ten o’clock at night.

Brigadier-General Kukasheka stated that even though his sibling had passed away, he did not regard the incident as a personal attack in an exclusive interview with Weekend Trust.

Four people were immediately killed in the incident, and two more people died from their wounds while undergoing medical attention.

The community is in shock at the attack’s savagery, as the majority of the fatalities were family men with several dependents.

The wife of Kukasheka’s head imam was abducted during the attack, adding to the incident’s sorrow and shocking local officials about the growing level of danger in the area.

Speaking on the incident, Kukasheka said, “You can see the humanitarian crisis this attack has caused. My brother had a wife and two children and one young boy was sent on an errand by his mother. Other victims were breadwinners of their families. One of them was catering for over 30 people.

“This is not the first attack that affected my immediate family. My wife’s elder brother was killed next to my house. My sister was once abducted in a neighbouring village and my mother-in-law was kidnapped; she spent 17 days in captivity close to Eid el Kabir.

“It is not a personal thing. Although I don’t know their motives, I see it as a general problem. Anyone living around this area is vulnerable, especially in Kankara. All we need to do is intensify intelligence and information gathering about them.”
