Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has announced the implementation of a N73,000 minimum wage for state workers, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to improving the welfare of residents.
The Governor made this declaration on Saturday in Ondo City during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial campaign for the Ondo Central Senatorial District ahead of the November 16 election.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that while the federal government approved a N70,000 minimum wage, Ondo State will surpass this by offering N73,000 to its workers.
Addressing a large gathering of supporters, Aiyedatiwa urged them to translate their support into votes, ensuring the continuation of the state’s development efforts under the APC.
“As we approach November 16, I call on everyone to turn this massive support into votes for the APC, ensuring that our developmental strides continue uninterrupted,” the Governor stated.
Reflecting on his administration’s achievements, Governor Aiyedatiwa noted several key milestones reached over the past 10 months.
“We’ve initiated numerous critical projects, including those commenced by the late governor. Our focus on agriculture has greatly boosted food production, and we’ve approved over a billion naira for land clearing while launching multiple rural road projects to enhance farmers’ productivity.”
The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sectors like health, education, and youth empowerment, adding that recent increases in salaries and allowances for doctors have helped address the “Japa” syndrome, which has led to medical professionals leaving for better opportunities abroad.
State APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, also addressed the crowd, urging them to protect their voter cards and vote to keep APC in power. He lauded the Governor’s focus on infrastructural development, calling it crucial to the state’s growth.
Campaign Director-General Hon. Abiola Makinde, who represents Ondo East/West in the House of Representatives, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership and called on supporters to return to their communities and mobilize voters for the upcoming election.
Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi, highlighted the administration’s key achievements, including timely payment of salaries, road projects, and funding for WAEC fees in public schools.
Meanwhile, former APC gubernatorial aspirant Chief Olusola Oke called for robust grassroots mobilization, urging party members to secure votes in their units to guarantee victory on November 16.
Hon. Kolade Akinjo, a former House of Representatives member and ex-PDP gubernatorial aspirant, cited Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership and development agenda as reasons for his decision to join the APC.
The APC senatorial district campaign will continue in Ikare Akoko for the Ondo North Senatorial District on Monday.
