Petrol hike: NLC speaks on embarking on nationwide strike

Must read

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has hinted at a nationwide strike following the increase in petrol pump prices by the Nigeria National Petrol Company (NNPC).

The NLC president, Joe Ajaero, while appearing on the Arise TV daily show on Friday, October 11, revealed that the Labour Congress will have to first meet as a union through its NEC or CWC to deliberate on embarking on a nationwide strike.

AFRIPOST had reported that NNPC increased the price of premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, across its retail outlets. The price of the product increased to N998 per litre in Lagos on Wednesday.

Nigerians, however, have bemoaned the recent increase in fuel prices in the country while lamenting about the additional untold hardship the recent development will bring.

Joe Ajaero, NLC President speaking on the issue on Arise TV and how it affects Nigerians and how the organization can step in stated:

“Now, on the issue that NLC will go on strike, every organization have their modus operandi and the NLC president at no time will have the right or power to say that there will be a strike tomorrow.

“We have our own initial and administrative processes of convening meetings at the nearest possible time where we make decisions on how the next line of action will be taken. No NLC president will come out and say we are going to start the strike tomorrow or next tomorrow without orders in meetings, mostly by NEC or CWC, and we are following that process.

“Latest next week we should be able to meet and have conversations around this so that the personal view of the leader does not cloud the position of the members.”
