LASTMA dismisses six officials over misconduct

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed six of its officials following a recommendation from the Personnel Management Board.

The terminations were approved by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission as part of efforts to reinforce discipline within the agency.

In a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the agency’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed that the dismissals were a result of “serious misconduct and inefficiencies” by the affected officers.

Bakare-Oki explained that these actions were in line with the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations, emphasizing that they aim to strengthen the agency’s operations.

“This decision is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring accountability among our personnel,” he stated.

The General Manager also mentioned that further disciplinary reviews are in progress, with another Personnel Management Board session set to address additional cases of misconduct among other officers.

He called on Lagos residents to collaborate with LASTMA by reporting any misconduct by its officials, along with supporting evidence. “We encourage the public to help us by providing feedback on any inappropriate behavior from our officers,” Bakare-Oki urged.

In addition, he reminded motorists to comply with traffic regulations, warning that violators would face penalties through the Lagos State Mobile Courts. According to him, adherence to traffic rules is crucial for achieving the THEMES Plus Development Agenda under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s “Greater Lagos” vision, which places traffic management as a priority.

LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to handling public complaints fairly and encouraged citizens to utilize its toll-free line or visit the agency’s complaint center in Oshodi for assistance.

“While we are dedicated to enforcing the law, we will also protect the civil rights of all road users in Lagos,” Bakare-Oki concluded.
