A new bail request by Tigran Gambaryan, an imprisoned Binance executive accused of money laundering, has been denied by an Abuja Federal High Court.
The decision was rendered by Justice Emeka Nwite, who said that Gambaryan had challenged his initial bail request, which was related to his health.
Given that Gambaryan has an ongoing appeal against the initial bail decision, Nwite claimed that the latest bail application amounted to an abuse of the legal system.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended and arrested Gambaryan, a key official at Binance, on allegations of money laundering.
Due to his poor health, his attorneys have been pleading for his release on bond.
According to Gambaryan’s solicitors, he has a disc problem and needs immediate medical treatment. They included surgical recommendations in their medical reports from the State House Annex Clinic in Asokoro, Abuja.
The EFCC, however, refuted these assertions, asserting that Gambaryans may be treated at Nigerian facilities. In addition, the committee provided a report from Nizamiye Hospital refuting claims made by Gambaryan’s family that he “can no longer walk.”
