Must read

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms across the country from Thursday through Saturday.

In a weather outlook released on Wednesday, NiMet predicted that thunderstorms would affect the northern region, with storms expected in the morning in states like Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna on Thursday. Later in the day, storms are anticipated over Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kebbi states.

For the North Central region, NiMet expects morning thunderstorms in areas like the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue states, with continued storm activity throughout the day.

In the southern region, thunderstorms are forecast for the morning in parts of Ebonyi and Enugu, with most parts of the region affected later in the day.

On Friday, NiMet predicts thunderstorms over Taraba in the morning, extending to Kaduna, Kebbi, and Adamawa by afternoon. In the North Central, storms are expected across the FCT, Niger, Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa. The southern states, including Abia, Imo, and Cross River, are also forecasted to experience storms throughout the day.

Saturday will see thunderstorms again affecting the North, particularly in Taraba, Adamawa, and later Kaduna, Katsina, and Kano. Similar weather conditions are expected in the North Central, with most of the southern region also experiencing storms during both morning and evening hours.

NiMet warned of potential urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall and advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Strong winds are expected to precede the storms, and the agency urged the public to follow safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities. Airlines and the general public were also encouraged to stay updated through NiMet’s official channels.

For more detailed forecasts, residents are advised to visit the agency’s website at www.nimet.gov.ng.
