Tight security in Jos as elections hold in 17 Plateau LGs

Heavy security measures have been implemented in Jos as elections take place across the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau State.

A correspondent from the News Agency of Nigeria reported on Wednesday that personnel from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and military forces were deployed to key locations throughout the area.

Security officials were also present at various polling units to ensure a smooth electoral process.

To facilitate the elections, the Police Command had previously imposed restrictions on movement across the state.

Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Plateau, informed NAN that sufficient personnel had been assigned to all LGAs.

“We have made extensive preparations to ensure the election proceeds peacefully,” Alabo stated. “Our officers have been deployed to all 17 LGAs and to specific high-risk areas within the metropolis.

“Thus far, the situation remains calm, and we expect Plateau residents to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a violence-free election,” he added.
