Katsina: District Head arrested for alleged involvement in kidnapping

The Katsina State Police Command has detained 45-year-old Usamatu Adamu, the district head of Runka village in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, in relation to a possible criminal conspiracy and kidnapping case.

AFRIPOST gathered that his purported involvement in the criminal plot and kidnapping of four individuals—Ali, Abdulkarim, Malam Sakoa, and Malam Sirajo—all of Runka village in Safana LGA, Katsina State, was discovered during preliminary investigations.

On October 3, 2024, the suspect—who is now staying in Sabon Gida village in Kaduna State’s Igabi Local Government Area—was located and taken into custody based on reliable information.

The suspect and two of his accomplices, Rabe Sada, nicknamed BBC, age 62, and Nasiru Sha’aibu, age 48, both of Runka village, were paraded by Katsina Police Command spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq on Tuesday.

Sadiq claims that following a thorough investigation that connected the suspect—Ward Head—to many kidnapping occurrences in Runka village, Safana LGA, the state, the suspect was taken into custody.

While the investigation is still ongoing, the suspect acknowledged committing the crime during questioning and named two other people from Runka village as his accomplices: Rabe Sada, also known as BBC, who is 62 years old, and Nasiru Sha’aibu, who is 48 years old. They provided information to Umar, a well-known suspected armed bandits kingpin who is believed to be hibernating in Runka forest, Safana LGA, Katsina State.

The Command also said that a suspected rapist responsible for the violent attack and failed attempt at murder of a sixteen-year-old girl at Ambassadors Quarters in Katsina State has been apprehended.

The victim’s mother had sent her on an errand when the suspect, a 24-year-old guy from Ambassador’s quarters, approached her, intimidated her and pulled her into an unfinished structure where he sexually abused and sexually attacked her. The suspect was armed with a knife.

The perpetrator tossed the woman into a neighbouring well and flung stones down it to kill her in a desperate attempt to hide his crime.

Following her disappearance, Abdullahi Sabitu, the victim’s father, reported the matter to the GRA divisional police headquarters, which prompted prompt action.

According to a representative for the Command, investigators got to work, pulled the victim out of the well, and took the culprit into custody.

“The victim is currently receiving medical attention; an investigation is currently ongoing,” a police spokesman said.
