BREAKING: Appeal Court declares LP candidate winner, sacks Enugu Rep member

Must read

The removal of Hon. Simon Atigwe, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from the House of Representatives by the Election Petition Tribunal has been sustained by the Court of Appeal located in Enugu.

The proclamation of Hon. Dennis Nnamdi Agbo of the Labour Party, LP as the victor of the Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency rerun election on February 3, 2024, was also upheld by the court.

The three panel members gave the decision in unison, and Justice Ekanem, the panel chairman, read it out.

In a post on Wednesday, Ifeanyi Ogenyi, a lawyer for the Labour Party, affirmed the judgement.

He wrote, “Congratulations to the people of Igbo Eze North/Udenu Federal constituency.

“The wheel of justice turns slowly, but it grinds. Truth and justice have prevailed, no matter the wait. Dennis Agbo has prevailed!.”

It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced Atigwe the victor of the rerun poll.

However, Agbo, who had previously won the election on February 25, 2023, but had been fired by the appellate court, went to the tribunal to contest Atigwe’s declaration and prevailed there as well as at the Appeal court.
