Army General detained in Abuja for alleged stealing of palliative, selling official vehicles, others

Must read

Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, a military commander from Nigeria, is being held in a military police guardroom in Abuja. He is accused of selling military equipment, such as generator sets and operational vehicles, to scrap yards and of diverting rice palliatives.

AFRIPOST gathered that General Sadiq allegedly refused to share the rice with his men in Kano State, despite the Nigerian Defence Headquarters distributing it to brigades around the country for soldiers to receive as a palliative.

Additionally, it was learnt that the troubled general stole a large amount of military-owned equipment from the Military Training Camp in Falgore, Kano, including a heavy-duty generator made by MIKANO, and sold it to metal scrap merchants.

It was also learnt that Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, a former registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy, has taken General Sadiq’s seat in light of these claims.

The source said: “Following these allegations, Brigadier General Sadiq has been detained in the guardroom and is facing interrogation by the special investigation branch of military police in Abuja.

“He was first invited to Abuja for questioning, and immediately ordered to be locked in the military police guardroom. There are mounting allegations against him.

“Already Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, who previously served as the Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, has been appointed to take charge of the brigade.
“Full-scale investigations into the matter are ongoing. He will likely face charges at the court-martial,” the source added.

Meanwhile, the DHQ has formally commented on the latest development. A press release statement released by the Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu stated:

“The Nigerian Army has been inundated with media reports regarding the immediate past Commander 3 Brigade Kano, Brigadier General MA Sadiq, who is currently undergoing a military investigation into administrative discrepancies while he was Commander 3 Brigade. Consequently, the senior officer has been relieved of command to ensure a thorough investigation.

“The Nigerian Army being a self-regulatory institution founded on the bedrock of discipline, justice, and accountability, has zero tolerance for indiscipline and will therefore not condone any form of misconduct or illicit actions and inactions that could undermine the threshold of its values and principles.

“The Nigerian Army assures both our internal and external publics that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate administrative action will be taken. Our commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency remains unwavering.

“We guarantee that the process will be fair, impartial, and in line with our established procedures.”
