13 suspected ‘Yahoo-boys’ arrested in Uyo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reported the arrest of thirteen individuals suspected of internet fraud by its Uyo zonal office in Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement released on October 8, 2024, by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Dele Oyewale, it was revealed that the suspects were taken into custody on Monday, October 7, in the Nwaniba area of Uyo, following reliable intelligence about their alleged fraudulent activities.

During the operation, EFCC operatives confiscated various items from the suspects, including two Lexus 350 sedans, a Toyota Camry, and a Toyota Corolla. Oyewale stated, “Thirteen suspected internet fraudsters were arrested by the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the Nwaniba area of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.”

The confiscated vehicles include a Lexus 350 with registration number BGK 698 SU (Abia), another Lexus 350 with registration number ABC 573 BC, a Toyota Camry V6 with registration number UYY 888 HR (Akwa Ibom), and a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTM 613 AA (Akwa Ibom).

Additionally, six laptops and twenty smartphones were also seized during the operation.

The statement concluded by noting that the suspects would face charges in court once the investigation is complete.
