Fans query Remi’s absence as Kunle Afolayan unveils cast for Anikulapo series 2

Must read

Popular Nigeria Nollywood actor, Kunle Remi, known for his popular role as Saro in Anikulapo series has been found missing from the list of cast members returning for the second season.

Filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan had taken to his Instagram handle to announce the cast for the much-anticipated second season of Anikulapo.

On Monday, Afolayan confirmed that Netflix has renewed the show after its successful first season.

The director further hinted at what’s to come, stating that the new season will dive deeper into Nigerian history and culture, including the transatlantic slave trade.

Kunle Afolayan captioned the post:

“Unveiling the new stars/talents of Anikulapo series… Back and bigger than ever. Netflix confirms new season of Anikulapo!!!!!

We are thrilled to announce that Netflix has officially renewed Anikulapo for another exciting season!”

Returning actors include Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Gabriel Afolayan, Owo Ogunde, Aisha Lawal, and Eyiyemi Afolayan.

However, the lack of Kunle Remi, who played Saro, the main character in the first season, has raised questions. Saro’s character was crucial, showing a man trying to improve his life but facing tragedy because of his affair with the king’s wife, Arolake.

After an unexpected death, Saro is brought back to life by Akala, a magical bird that can give life.

With his new powers, Saro gains status in the village of Ojumo but eventually lets pride take over, leading him to make dangerous demands to bring back the dead.

The first part of Anikulapo, a Netflix original, was released on September 30, 2022.

Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre was available for streaming starting March 1, 2024. It was written by Shola Dada and directed and produced by Kunle Afolayan.
