The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence that the proposed alliance between Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the 2027 presidential election will be unsuccessful.
In an interview with The PUNCH, APC National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, stated that the alliance would likely fail due to a lack of trust between Obi and Kwankwaso, similar to what happened before the 2023 election. He noted that both political figures are too ambitious to concede the presidency to the other.
Kwankwaso recently hinted at the possibility of being Obi’s running mate in 2027 under certain undisclosed conditions. Labour Party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, welcomed the idea, suggesting the partnership could work if Kwankwaso is willing to support Obi.
However, APC’s Ibrahim dismissed the possibility of the alliance succeeding, citing unresolved issues from their failed 2023 partnership. He argued that the APC remains strong and is not worried about opposition coalitions, predicting the party’s victory in the 2027 elections.
In contrast, Abdullahi Ibrahim, the National Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), welcomed the potential alliance, emphasizing that the opposition must unite to end the APC’s reign and alleviate the current hardships Nigerians face.
