The decision by Starlink to unilaterally review its subscription packages upwards did not receive the approval of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, the commission said on Tuesday.
Recall that the commission had withdrawn its earlier position after a statement it issued went viral.
It has now made a U-turn, confirming a pre-enforcement action against the internet service provider. It did not, however, give details of the action it is taking against the organization.
A statement signed by Reuben Muoka, Director, Public Affairs said, “The action of the company is in contravention of Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA), 2003, and Starlink’s Licence Conditions regarding tariffs.”
The statement further affirmed that, “the Commission commenced pre-enforcement action on the licensee on the 3rd of October, 2024.”
