Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has raised concerns about potential violence orchestrated by suspected gunmen targeting the 23 local government headquarters throughout the state today.
During the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected local government chairpersons at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara urged the officials to prioritize peace in their governance and to refrain from engaging in any violent confrontations.
He asserted that the disputes surrounding the recent local government elections have been resolved.
Fubara cautioned the chairpersons about the likelihood of facing hostility as they resume their duties on Monday, stating, “I’m aware that there are plans to mobilize 20 individuals per unit to confront you at your local government headquarters. If they arrive with violent intentions, I urge you to avoid them. The peace of this state is paramount.”
He emphasized the importance of a strategic and patient approach, saying, “Everyone is aware of their intentions, but I encourage you to remain calm and strategic. If you exercise patience and careful planning, you will ultimately succeed. We have made commitments to our people, and we will guide them to the Promised Land.”
