Daniel Amokachi appointed head coach of Lobi Stars

Must read

Daniel Amokachi, a former star of the Super Eagles, has been named the new head coach of Lobi Stars, a club in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

This change comes after a restructuring of the club’s coaching staff, which saw the immediate dismissal of Coach Eugene Agagbe. Agagbe’s departure follows a disappointing performance in which the team secured only one win out of several recent matches, failing to achieve the target of five victories.

During his time at the helm, Lobi Stars recorded three losses, prompting the board to reassess his position.

Now, the club, located in Makurdi, Benue State, is placing its hopes in Amokachi—nicknamed ‘The Bull’—to revive the team’s fortunes.

In an official statement, the club announced Amokachi’s immediate appointment, emphasizing that his leadership is expected to revitalize their strategy and enhance on-field performance.

Amokachi joins a select group of former Super Eagles players who have moved into coaching within the NPFL, alongside his ex-teammates Finidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke, who have both been linked to coaching roles with the Nigerian national team in the past.

In addition to Agagbe’s exit, Lobi Stars has chosen to release all of their backroom staff. Those affected have been invited to reapply if they wish to remain with the club and are required to return any club property in their possession to the club secretary without delay.

These sweeping changes underscore the club’s commitment to implementing a new strategy and returning to winning form. Amokachi’s appointment, given his legacy of success and leadership, marks Lobi Stars’ ambition to make a significant impact in the NPFL moving forward.
