LASTMA arrests driver for reckless driving, injuring pedestrian

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has arrested a driver responsible for reckless driving, which led to a pedestrian being injured.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the agency’s spokesman, Taofiq Adebayo, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed that the incident involved the driver of a Toyota Camry with registration number KTU 447 EV. The driver had dangerously sped through a crowded area at Ewenla/Charity, near Oshodi, en route to Mile 2.

“Unfortunately, the driver’s careless actions resulted in a pedestrian being severely injured after being struck by the vehicle,” Bakare-Oki said.

LASTMA officers at the scene acted quickly, rushing the injured pedestrian to Comfort Hospital in the Mafoluku area of Oshodi for urgent medical attention.

The driver was immediately apprehended, and both the driver and the vehicle were handed over to the Mafoluku Police Station for further investigation.

Bakare-Oki urged all road users to prioritize safety and strictly adhere to traffic regulations, stressing the importance of protecting pedestrians and other motorists. He expressed his concern for the victim’s recovery and extended his wishes for a speedy recuperation.

He also reiterated LASTMA’s dedication to enforcing road safety laws to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
