Gov Yusuf expresses shock as fire guts Kano market

 

In response to the unfortunate fire catastrophe that destroyed numerous businesses at the well-known Kantin Kwari textile market on the evening of Saturday, October 5, 2024, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has expressed deep shock and sincere sympathy to all the traders affected.

The impacted traders, their families, and the whole Kano State community received Governor Yusuf’s heartfelt sympathy, according to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

In addition to expressing sympathy for the victims, he called the incident a catastrophic blow to the state’s economic centre.

To avoid such incidents in the future, the governor advised market officials and traders to step up safety precautions and maintain their vigilance.

He underlined the vital necessity of taking further precautions to save lives and property, emphasising that preserving the market is necessary to guaranteeing its continuous function as a cornerstone of Kano’s economy.

Afripost.ng had reported that around 7:00 PM, on October 5, the fire broke out at Gidan Inuwa Mai Mai on Bayajidda Street and swiftly spread to a number of the market’s structures.

The fire was effectively contained, averting more harm, thanks to the quick action of the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Fire Service, and extra reinforcements from Sabon Gari, Dawanau, and Singa Markets.

Governor Yusuf praised the private firms, volunteer groups, and fire services for their bravery and quick response in putting out the fire.

He urged all parties involved in the market to cooperate in placing a high priority on safety and putting the appropriate safeguards in place to prevent the recurrence of such regrettable incidents.

The governor assured the impacted traders of the government’s assistance in lessening the incident’s impacts and reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting them during this difficult period.
