Nigeria’s Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, alongside members of the National Assembly from Akwa Ibom State, visited Governor Umo Eno to express their heartfelt condolences following the death of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno.
The Senate President was joined by Senator Aniekan Bassey (Uyo Senatorial District), Senator Ekong Sampson (Eket Senatorial District), and Hon. Paul Ekpo (Etinan Federal Constituency) during the visit.
Speaking at the event, Senator Akpabio conveyed his profound sadness over the loss of the First Lady, describing it as a deep personal tragedy for her family, the state, and the nation as a whole. He noted that Pastor Patience Eno would be remembered for her admirable qualities and steadfast support.
Akpabio reflected on her role as a devoted wife, highlighting her contributions to Governor Eno’s leadership and inclusive vision for Akwa Ibom State. He described her as a humble and virtuous woman whose unwavering support helped foster unity and progress in the state.
Offering words of comfort, the Senate President assured Governor Eno that he was not alone in his grief, urging him to find strength in his faith, knowing that his wife lived a life of devotion to God.
He further commended the Governor for appointing their eldest daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, as the Coordinator of the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), the late First Lady’s charitable project, which he noted would preserve her legacy of service.
In his response, Governor Umo Eno expressed deep appreciation for the visit, thanking the Senate President and his entourage for their show of solidarity. He also congratulated Akpabio on receiving the national honor of GCON.
“This visit holds great significance for me, my family, and the state. I have always prayed for unity among our people, and I believe Akwa Ibom is setting an example for others to follow,” Governor Eno said. “We remain committed to fostering unity for the benefit of all, and I appreciate the outpouring of support and prayers.”
The Governor was joined by members of his administration, including Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Senator Effiong Bob, Ambassador Asam Asam, Secretary to the State Government Prince Enobong Uwah, Commissioner for Information Ini Ememobong, and other top officials, in receiving the visitors.
