Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has issued a strong directive to Permanent Secretaries and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, to prevent any looting of government properties by political appointees as the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki draws to a close.
Shaibu emphasized that if any assets go missing under their supervision, they will be held accountable by the incoming government.
The Deputy Governor specifically pointed out that political appointees, including the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Assistants, will end their tenures on November 11.
“As our administration nears its conclusion, I have directed Permanent Secretaries and heads of MDAs to ensure no government property is looted by political appointees. They will be held responsible by the incoming administration for any missing assets,” Shaibu stated.
He underscored that the duty of safeguarding state properties rests with the Permanent Secretaries and MDA directors and warned of serious consequences if they fail to protect these assets.
Shaibu also reminded officials that removing government-owned items is illegal and will not be tolerated.
“Permanent Secretaries and heads of MDAs must be alert in securing these assets. If they neglect this responsibility, they will be held accountable for their inventories. Political appointees are also warned against engaging in such actions that could result in legal consequences,” he added.
As Edo State prepares for a government transition, Shaibu’s remarks underscore the need for a smooth and secure handover of assets to the incoming administration.
