PDP crisis deepens as S/East National Vice Chairman denies suspension

The National Vice Chairman (South East) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ali Odefa, has refuted claims of his suspension by a group of individuals who recently held a press conference in Abuja.

In an interview with Vanguard, Odefa described the suspension as a “cowardly act” by unknown persons with no legitimate affiliation to the PDP. He questioned the credibility of the announcement, stating, “I’m in Abakaliki right now. Doesn’t it strike you as odd that they bypassed the entire Ebonyi State to make such a declaration in Abuja? These are merely attention-seekers.”

Odefa was responding to a statement made by a group claiming to represent the PDP executives in his Oguduokwor Ward, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Led by Herbert Onyedikachi, who introduced himself as the Acting Chairman of the PDP in Odefa’s ward, the group announced at a press conference in Abuja that Odefa had been suspended for alleged anti-party activities and other actions harmful to the party.

Onyedikachi claimed the decision was made during a ward executive meeting in accordance with Section 57(3) of the PDP Constitution, which grants the Ward Executive Committee the authority to suspend members. He added that Odefa’s case had been referred to the Ward Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.

The group explained that the suspension and referral were aimed at upholding party discipline and reinforcing the core values of the PDP. They urged party members to remain committed to the party’s objectives.

Chief Odefa, however, dismissed the suspension as baseless, asserting that those behind it are not recognized by the PDP in Ebonyi State.
