Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, has hinted at the idea of making his Labour Party counterpart in the last election, Peter Obi, his deputy ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a video clip that is presently trending on the X microblogging site, the former governor of Kano State, speaking in Hausa, stated that he would be prepared to deputise Obi “if certain conditions are met”.

Kwankwaso, who claimed to be politically bigger than Obi, said they are prepared to engage in substantive conversations with the LP leader to reach an accord before the 2027 elections.

He said, “I’m bigger than Peter Obi politically, I’m his elder brother, I’m a PhD holder, I performed better than him when I was a governor of my state. I’ve no problem with deputizing Peter Obi, but only if certain conditions are met.

“We are willing to engage in discussions, provided that trust is established”.

Recall that Peter Obi received the majority of votes in 11 states as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in the 2023 presidential election.

With around 6,101,533 votes, the former governor of Anambra finished third.

However, Kwankwaso received 1,496,687 votes overall and won the election in 38 of Kano State’s 44 local government districts.
