As preparations for the Rivers State Local Government elections, scheduled for Saturday, October 5, near completion, former governor Celestine Omehia has called on voters to responsibly exercise their civic rights.
Speaking on behalf of the Rivers Political Elders and Leaders Forum, Omehia emphasized that the local government election is a fundamental expression of the people’s rights. He made these remarks during a visit with members of the forum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt.
Omehia encouraged the governor to stay committed to ensuring a smooth and successful election, affirming that every resident of Rivers State is entitled to vote.
He stated, “Those opposing the election are not acting in the best interests of Rivers people.”
Omehia also highlighted the group’s commitment to upholding democratic values and fostering unity in the state. He noted that past leaders of Rivers State would be pleased to see the state experience peace, unity, and development, which is the focus of the local government election.
