Suspected arsonists have allegedly detonated explosives at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, just hours before the scheduled Local Government elections.
The incident, which reportedly took place early Saturday morning, caused significant damage to the APC secretariat’s main gate, security post, and parts of a neighboring building. Videos circulating on social media suggest that dynamites were used in the attack.
Chief Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of the APC in Rivers State, confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP and pointed fingers at supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing them of being responsible for the attack.
In a statement, Okocha wrote: “In the early hours of Saturday, pro-Fubara civilian soldiers detonated dynamites at our office. A second attempt to set the building on fire was thwarted by the security personnel who managed to extinguish the flames.”
