Doguwa lashes Kwankwaso says ‘You are yet to recover from 2023 defeat’

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Hon. Alhassan Doguwa, has responded to remarks made by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Kwankwaso recently claimed that Nigerians would vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, especially in the northern region.

Speaking at a political event in Kano, Kwankwaso said the APC had lost favor with Nigerians and predicted a change of leadership in 2027. In a statement issued in Abuja, Doguwa dismissed Kwankwaso’s remarks, stating that he was still reeling from his defeat by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 elections. According to Doguwa, Kwankwaso’s prediction was nothing more than wishful thinking.

Doguwa, who represents Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency in Kano, urged Kwankwaso to come to terms with his political decline and prepare for retirement by 2027. He described Kwankwaso’s comments as “hallucinations,” asserting that President Tinubu is working tirelessly to restore Nigeria’s economy and prosperity.

Doguwa pointed out that when President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, Nigeria’s economy was in poor shape. However, he argued that the president has made significant strides, including attracting over $30 billion in foreign direct investments within 16 months, paying off a $7 billion forex backlog, and reducing the debt service ratio from 97% to 68%.

He also highlighted Tinubu’s efforts to boost national security, noting that over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders, including Kachalla Halilu Sububu, have been eliminated. Doguwa added that the establishment of the North West Development Commission would aid in rebuilding the region, which plays a key role in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

Doguwa expressed optimism that the economic challenges currently facing the country would soon ease due to President Tinubu’s interventions. He also criticized Kwankwaso for trying to control the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and claimed that the APC is set to reclaim Kano State in 2027, citing the NNPP government’s alleged poor performance and loss of public confidence.

In closing, Doguwa dismissed Kwankwaso’s ability to speak for the northern region, labeling his claims as personal and out of touch with the reality on the ground.
