Zenith bank is currently trending on social media for the wrong reasons after it shut down its internet based services for more than 24 hours.
The services affected are all internet based transactions including mobile, internet, and USSD transfers. Also affected are SMS and other onlien- related services.
Majority of its mobile and internet users have been unable to login to their internet and mobile apps as they constantly get error messages of “ an error has occurred. Please try again later.”
Recall that the bank had earlier issued a notice on its app that it was carrying out a routine maintenance which was going to last from between 12am to 2pm on Tuesday. While most customers were still questioning why such maintenance should be allowed on a public holiday, the bank services did not return until after 24 hours. This has further infuriated customers who currently drag the bank on social media.
Some customers have consequently threatened to transfer their money from the bank immediately the app returns and stop further banking with the organization.
But to the greatest shock of the bank’s customers, a new notice was posted on the Bank’s Twitter handle where it further extended its maintenance to the second day. Apparently, the bank will remain shut down for another 24 hours, making it 48 hours in total.
Twitter users have since expressed their disappointment over the bank’s operations and have alerted the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, on the current issue.
A video has also emerged of some bank customers who stormed the bank’s branches on Monday in protest after failing to access their money.
Some claimed their salaries have been paid but were unable to withdraw or make transfers, alleging that it is a deliberate ploy by the bank to stop people from transferring out their cash.
As at the time of filling this report, the bank services remain shut down.
