EDO GUBER: LP NASS candidates urge opposition parties to unite against APC

Must read

Less than 48 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, as the winner of the Edo State election, Labour Party National Assembly and State Assembly Candidate’s Forum, NASAF, has called for an alliance among opposition parties to kick out the ruling APC.

NASAF urged the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Labour Party, LP, and other like-minded parties to form a strong coalition that would dislodge the APC.

A statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Osereme Omofoma; and Secretary, Adam Abideen, decried the hardship into which Nigerians have been thrown by the APC, arguing that the only means through which the country can be salvaged was a strong opposition party.

The statement reads: “Now is the time for us to broaden our alliances. The Labour Party, the Obidient Movement, PDP, and other like-minded political forces must come together in harmony to face the real enemy—those who masquerade as leaders but have only brought suffering to our people. If we fail to unite, we risk wailing and crying without ever achieving the solution Nigeria so desperately needs it. Together, we will chart a path forward. Together, we will restore the hope of our people. And together, we will build the Nigeria we dream of. Stay strong, stay focused, and stay united. Victory is on the horizon.

“We are not just dreamers; we are doers. Many of us have left behind the comfort of our lives, the tranquility of success, and the safety of our personal pursuits to take on the monumental task of fixing this great country, Nigeria, a nation brimming with unrealised potential. It is not an easy task, and we never expected it to be. Some may laugh today, believing that they have won by rigging us out or buying votes from our people—people who have been weaponized by hunger.

“But let me assure you, their laughter will not last. We have begun a necessary restructuring, and we are steadfast in our work to rebuild Nigeria. Brick by brick, step by step, we are laying the foundation for a nation that will one day reflect the greatness we all know it can achieve for ourselves, for our children, and for generations to come. I know it is tempting to despair, especially after what we witnessed in the recent Edo State election. But we must remember this: despair is exactly what our adversaries want. If we lose hope, they will feel emboldened to wreak further havoc. But if we remain united, and strong in our resolve, we will overcome them. Our unity is our greatest weapon.”
