Maintain impartiality, CLEEN Foundation urges INEC

Must read

CLEEN Foundation has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to uphold transparency and impartiality as the collation of results for the 2024 Edo State Governorship Election continues.

In its interim report, the Foundation praised the professionalism of security personnel but expressed concern over potential external influences on the electoral process.

“We call on INEC to remain neutral and impartial as the process draws closer to completion,” CLEEN Foundation stated.

The organization emphasized the importance of safeguarding the credibility of the election, urging the electoral body to resist any undue pressure or interference from political actors.

“INEC must refrain from negative influence from political actors, in and outside the state, to avoid jeopardizing the collation process and outcome of the election.”

CLEEN Foundation’s report comes amid an overall peaceful election, but it highlighted key challenges such as vote trading, delays caused by payment issues among INEC ad-hoc staff, and sporadic violence by political thugs in some areas

CLEEN concluded its statement with a call for stakeholders to work together to ensure the peaceful conclusion of the election.

“We advocate for enhanced synergy between law enforcement agencies and INEC to guarantee a credible outcome. All actors must remain committed to the integrity of the process.”
