Balami offers scholarship to Nigerians on birthday

Isaac Balami, one of Nigeria’s top philanthropists, youths advocate, politician and aviation expert has offered scholarship to Nigerians interested in the field of aviation.

Balami who clocked 40 on Sunday had earlier suspended all plans towards the celebration of his new age, but rather opted for the empowerment of Nigerians in dire need of progressive careers.

By dedicating his birthday to empowering young Nigerians, Balami through Isaac Balami Foundation, IBF, called for applications for 2024 IBF Aviation Scholarship.

Recall that IBF has continued to provide quality education to hundreds of children across the nation, empowered countless homes, especially those of widows and supported young leaders through orphanage in Abuja and a fully funded school in Borno.

In the application details, the foundation said “In light of the current challenges facing our nation, he believes it is more important than ever to extend a helping hand to fellow Nigerians who deserve opportunities to thrive. This initiative is a project carried out under IBF’s Youth Empowerment Scheme (iYES) program.”

The scholarship will focus on the following career paths; Aircraft Maintenance Course, Cabin Crew Initial Training, Flight Dispatchers Course and Aircraft Planners Course.

“Project Background

Isaac Balami Foundation (IBF) was founded at the call of Isaac David Balami at the age of 19, as a young aviation student in Zaria. it was later registered on the 4th of April 2012 with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Act. IBF has deliver inclusive lifelong technical and vocational skills to adults and adolescent youths – 15yrs+, helping children learn by making them understand education is a human right – Zero Out of School Children, providing quality health care, Protection, Orphanage initiative, water sanitation and hygiene promotion whilst ensuring the empowerment of individuals for socio – economic growth and development streamlined in the achievement of an egalitarian society.

“IBF has provided quality education to hundreds of children across the nation, empowered countless homes—especially those of widows—and supported young leaders through our orphanage in Abuja and a fully-funded school in Borno.

“This year marks a significant milestone in the life of the founder, as he marks his 40th birthday on the 25th of August. While his family and friends have made moves to celebrate this momentous occasion with grandeur, he has chosen a different path—one that focuses on giving back and making a meaningful impact.

In lieu of a grand celebration, he has decided to collaborate with those who were planning festivities to launch a transformative initiative aimed at advancing the lives of 160 deserving Nigerians. Through the Isaac Balami Foundation, he will be offering scholarships for specialized training in four different aviation fields, empowering 40 individuals in each discipline.

“In light of the current challenges facing our nation, he believe it is more important than ever to extend a helping hand to fellow Nigerians who deserve opportunities to thrive. This initiative is a project carried out under IBF’s Youth Empowerment Scheme (iYES) program.

“Expected Outcome
Train and issue certificates to 160 qualified Nigerian youths who are interested in enrolling for any of the four (4) categories of the tuition free scholarship programs for: 
1. Aircraft Maintenance Course
• Basic Aircraft Technician Course. 
• Manufacturer Type Training on Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, e.t.c

  1. Cabin Crew Initial Training 
• Comprehensive training for aspiring cabin crew members.

  2. Flight Dispatchers Course 
• Initial Training in flight dispatch operations and management.

  3. Aircraft Planners Course 
• Basic Training in aircraft planning and scheduling.

Key Dates
• Application Opens: August 25, 2024
• Application Deadline: September 15, 2024
• Notification of Shortlisted Applicants: October 30, 2024
• Notification of Successful Applicants: December 2, 2024
• Start Date: January 13, 2025
• End Date: To be determined based on the specified duration of each course.

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
– Must be a Nigerian citizen.
– Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
– Must submit a CV along with a cover letter explaining why they are best suited for the training.
– Must fill and submit the application form only once (multiple submissions will result in disqualification).
– Must take full responsibility for their logistics, accommodation, and feeding, as the scholarship covers only tuition fees.

“Course-Specific Requirements
1. Aircraft Manufacturer’s Type Course:
– Educational Requirements: Minimum of an O’level certificate (WAEC or NECO).
– Note: Aircraft Maintenance License is required for the manufacturer type courses 
– Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old.

  1. Cabin Crew Training:
– Educational Requirements: Minimum of an O’level certificate (WAEC or NECO).
– Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old.
– Physical Requirements: Must meet the physical and medical standards required for cabin crew.

  2. Flight Dispatchers Course:
– Educational Requirements: Minimum of an O’level certificate (WAEC or NECO).
– Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old.
– Availability: Must be physically available for the 2-month training program.

  3. Basic Aircraft Maintenance, Planning and Control Course:
– Educational Requirements: Minimum of an O’level certificate (WAEC or NECO).
– Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old.
– Availability: Must be physically available for the course duration.

Additional Notes
1. – Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
– The training programs are intensive, and participants are expected to commit fully to the course schedule.
– Certificates will be awarded to participants who successfully complete their training. 
2. For specialized courses, qualified applicants above the age limit may be considered at the discretion of the selection committee.
