ASCSN appoints Acho as acting Secretary General, sacks Apebo

Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), has announced the appointment of Comrade Gamaliel Chiyere Acho as the acting Secretary General of the union.

The union noted that the appointment of Acho as acting Secretary General, followed the termination of the appointment of Comrade Joshua Apebo as the Secretary General of the union.

ASCSN President, Comrade Innocent Bola-Audu made these assertions via a press statement made available to journalists on Friday.

Bola-Audu in the statement, maintained that Acho will now head, oversee and run the national Secretariat of the union.

He added that Acho’s appointment was a unanimous decision taken at Central Committee Meeting of the association.

Bola-Audu while speaking further, maintained that the new acting Secretary General is the longest serving staff of the association.

He also said that the acting Secretary General has excelled in diligent performance of his duties at different levels, including as State Secretary of the union in many states at various times.

He said, “The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has a new Acting Secretary General in the person of Comrade Gamaliel Chinyere Acho, to head, oversee and run the affairs of the National Secretariat of the Association.

“Comrade Acho’s appointment is a unanimous decision taken at an emergency virtual meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Association held on 26th July, 2024. The appointment which comes months after the resignation of former Secretary General Alade Bashir Lawal takes immediate effect pending ratification by the National Executive Council (NEC) and confirmation by the National Delegates Conference (NDC).

“The CWC meeting was the first after a historic judgment delivered on 9th of July, 2024 by His Lordship Honourable Justice O. O. Oyewunmi of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Suit No. NIC/ABJ/214/2022 between Innocent Bola-Audu (Claimant) vs. Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) & 2 Ors., wherein the learned judge affirmed Comrade Innocent Bola-Audu as the one and only lawful, valid and authentic National President of the Association.

“That judgment effectively put an end to over three years of leadership crisis in the Association. The CWC meeting earlier reviewed the purported appointment of Comrade Joshua Apebo as Secretary General in the year 2023, noting that Apebo’s appointment was illegal since the judgment of the NICN declared illegal, null and void the CWC and NEC meetings where the appointment and its ratification were made.

“The CWC, in deference to the court judgment and as a law-abiding entity, thus accepted the judgment and promptly cancelled Comrade Apebo’s appointment. New Acting Secretary General Acho is presently the longest serving staff of the Association and has always excelled in diligent performance of his duties at different levels, including as State Secretary of the union in many states at various times”.
