A 46-year old landlady, Mary Luka and her son, Raymond, were on Tuesday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for assaulting a tennant.
Mary and Ramond, 18, who reside at Sabon Tasha Kaduna, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful assault.
The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 10, at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.
Leo said that the defendants unlawfully assaulted a tenant, Samson Julius by beating him up and hitting his head with a log of wood.
The prosector said that Julius had confronted the landlady over the attitude of her son who stole the tenant’s cell phone while pretending to demand electricity bill.
“Instead of being apologetic, the landlady and her son resorted to insults, and in the process beat up the tenant,” he said.
Leo said that the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each, and a surety each in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, should also provide proof of ownership of landed property, two passport photographs and an affidavit of means.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 18, for hearing.
