As local government elections get underway in Delta, a morning downpour has reportedly disrupted the distribution of electoral materials to voting centres in some areas.
Local governments affected by the down pour included Ogwashi-Uku and Aniocha South.
The election of council chairmen and councillors are being held in the 5,863 polling units, 500 wards and 25 local government areas of the state.
NAN reports that the rain, which started at about 7.25 a.m., delayed the arrival of election officials and ad hoc staff to the distribution centres.
When NAN called at the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission Distribution Office at Ikelike quarters, Ogwashi-Uku, many polling agents and ad hoc staff were seen waiting for officials to arrive and distribute materials.
An ad hoc staff, Mrs Joyce Ijeh, told NAN that the delay was caused by the early morning rain.
Ijeh said “they asked us to come here by 7.30 a.m., many of us came here under the rain.
“We have been waiting for over two hours now but nothing has happened. It is 10.45 a.m. now. Some of the officials are just coming now due to the rain.
“However, once the materials are distrbuted, everyone will leave for the various polling units,” Ijeh said.
