Two brothers docked over alleged theft of electric cables valued N3m

Two brothers, Kingsley Igwe, 30 and Chinedu Igwe, 23, were on Friday, arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing electric cables valued N3 million.

The defendants, who reside at Abule Egba axis of Lagos, are being charged with conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp Samuel Mishozunnu told the court that the defendants committed the offense between May 12 and 13, at Onitiri Avenue, Abule Egba, Lagos.

Mishozunnu said that residents of the community had kept vigil after discovering that their transformer had been vandalised, and some cables stolen.

The prosecutor said that the community members apprehended the defendants while attempting to steal the remaining cables.

He said that the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs F. D Hughes, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Hughes adjourned the case until July 26 for mention.
