The House of Representatives on Wednesday lost one of its members, Rep. Olaide Akinremi(APC-Oyo) who died in the early hours of Wednesday after a brief illness. He was aged 51.
Rep. Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson of the House in a statement in Abuja said Akinremi’s death came with profound sorrow.
He said that the deceased was affectionately known as ”Jagaban”, who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State under the platform of APC.
Akinremi before his death was a ranking member of the 10th Assembly, who served as Chairman, House Committee on Science Research Institutions,
Rotimi said that until his demise, the Oyo lawmaker was a dedicated public servant known for his unwavering commitment to the development of his constituency and the country at large.
He added that his passion for service, coupled with his deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of his people, earned him the endearing title of ‘Jagaban.’
He said that throughout his tenure, he was a staunch advocate for policies and initiatives that promoted social welfare, economic growth, and scientific research.
“His contributions to legislative debates and his active participation in committee activities were a testament to his dedication and hard work.
He said that the Speaker of the House of Reps., Rep Tajudeen Abbas Tajudeen, expressed his profound sadness over the loss.
Abbas said that the lawmaker was a beacon of dedication and service, adding that contributions to legislative work, especially in the area of science and research, were invaluable.
“His passing is a great loss to the House, his constituency, and the nation. We will miss his leadership, wisdom, and the unique passion he brought to his work,” the Speaker stated.
“The entire House of Representatives mourn this significant loss and extend its heartfelt condolences to the Akinremi family, the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, the Government and People of Oyo State.
