Stop your flamboyant life, leave by what you preach- UI Chief Imam tells Tinubu, governors

The Chief Imam of University of Ibadan, Professor Muftau Abdulrahman Oloyede has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, state governors and other political office holders to stop what he described as flamboyant life.

The professor of Arabic and Islamic studies advised the political leaders to reduce the cost of governance, reduce their salaries and other emoluments and divert the money for developmental projects.

Oloyede made these declarations shortly after he led Muslim congregation to observe the two Rakah obligatorily Eld Adhha prayer at the premises of the university on Sunday.

The Eld-Adhha prayer was attended by a former Governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rasidi Ladoja and other prominent Muslims in the state.

Oloyede while addressing the journalists enjoined Tinubu and other political office holders to stop what he described as flamboyant life.

The don while speaking further maintained that only the poor Nigerians are bearing the brunt of the current economic downturn in the country.

He added that the way political office holders are spending money did not correlate with what they are preaching.

He advised the political office holders to reduce their salaries, reduce their emoluments and use the money for developmental projects.

Oloyede said, “We all Nigerians should have faith in God. We should continue to pray. We all need prayers. But, I have a message for the rulers. They should work for the nation to trust them. For Nigerians to trust them.

“If they say that the economy is bad, let us see it in them. The flamboyant life the government officials are living is different from what they are telling us. That is why people are no longer patriotic. They should leave what they preach. That is my message for the leaders.

“I did mentioned it, the government should try to let Nigerians trust them. The way they leave is different from what they tell Nigerians. If it is true that the economy is in bad shape, let us see it in them.

“It is only the poor Nigerians that are bearing the brunt of economic downturn. It appeals the political office holders are not feeling anything. That is my message.

“The government should be bold enough to call a space a space and cut all the expenses and all other unnecessary emoluments that are making the citizens to be unhappy with the government. The message is clear, after hardship, ease will follow. Next year will be better”.
