Police confirm killing of two officers, civilian by suspected IPOB members

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome murder of two officers and one civilian in Akabor Community, Ikeduru local government area of the state.

It was earlier reported that the daredevil assailants attacked the police team during a stop-and-search on the Owerri- Okigwe road in Imo state and gunned down two officers and one civilian.

Confirming the unfortunate incident, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye in a statement said the victims were killed at the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to the PPRO, the Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, has deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad to go out in synergy with other security agencies and clamp down on the attackers.

He said the heinous crime was perpetrated by gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN.

“The operatives fought gallantly but unfortunately, two personnel and a civilian were fatally hit,” the statement partly read.

“While commiserating with the families of the deceased, the commissioner of police assured the people of the state that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that the culprits are brought to justice”, the statement added.
