Dr Aisha M.Z. Anka, Zamfara State Commissioner for Health has confirmed the outbreak of an unknown disease in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Spokesman of the Ministry, Ibrahim Bello Boko, and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the State capital.
According to the statement, the disease is characterized by abdominal distension, accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, enlarged liver and spleen, fever, and generalized body weakness.
“The incidence of illness outbreak is mostly found in Maradun, Shinkafi, and Gusau local government areas of the State”, the statement added.
“Children are mostly affected and the cases are associated with water consumption”
“So far, about one hundred and seventy-seven (177) are detected and 4 deaths are been reported”.
“The incidence has been reported to NCDC partners and all relevant stakeholders”.
“The Ministry of Health under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner, Dr Aisha M.Z. Anka is currently in the emergency response phase to identify the illnesses and their causes and contain the condition”.
“Various biological human and animal samples, soil samples, water samples, agricultural and foodstuff samples are taken to Lagos and Abuja laboratories for analysis”.
“The ministry also will continue to update the general public and all relevant esteem partners on any new findings as soon as possible”.
