Fire guts 50 shops at Kano market

Over 50 shops and property worth N150 million at Yan Katako Market Rijiyar Lemu area of Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, were destroyed in a fire incident.

Chairman of the market, Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi, disclosed that the incident occurred at about 1am on Monday.

He further revealed that over 50 shops containing plywood, foam, spray machine, chairs, and other carpentry tools, were destroyed.

The chairman said the cause of the incident had yet to be ascertained.

He, however, commended the Kano State Fire Service personnel for their prompt response.

Abdullahi, who spoke to newsmen concerning the incident, called on the state government and philanthropists to support them, as many traders have lost their means of livelihood.

Also, confirming the incident when contact, the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi explained that about 25 shops were completely razed down by the inferno, while several other shops were also touched or partially affected by the fire.

“We received distress calls around 1am and our men were able to put out the fire around 2am,” Abdullahi said.
