Education gives knowledge, skills needed to be successful in life- Proprietor

The Proprietor of Emamic Model College, Ologuneru, Ibadan, Mr. Otubah Omoniyi Olufemi  has declared that education is the only tool that gives people knowledge and skills needed to be successful in life.

Olufemi made this declaration while speaking during the 2024 International Day of Education organised by Jolly Rogers (Oyo-State chapter) in collaboration with Grundziro (New York, USA Chapter) Decks of the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity).

Olufemi who noted that the role of education cannot be overemphasized, maintained that education is an essential part of any society and it gives the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in life.

He said that it also helps in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and it teaches how to be productive members of society

He added that it is on this premise that the United Nations declared the day as the international day of education.

“When you talk about international day of education, it is an event that gladdens my heart as an educationist. It is a very significant event that the school owners should take as of of their priorities.

“When you take a look education, it is something that elevates people”.

Our correspondent reports that the first phase of the celebration kicked off with a live radio Programme with Premier FM 93.5 featuring on the program was Cap’n of Jolly Rogers Deck, Mr Adesope Olufemi accompanied by the Secondmate, Comrade Okekearu Fabian.

 

The program at Premier FM was centered on the value of education and it’s impact on the society.

Olufemi made it known that the Pyrates Confraternity was an advocacy organization and one of the ways of maintaining a just and egalitarian society was to ensure that the value of education was being upheld, and to this effect the confraternity has a youth book club task with the responsibility of reaching out to schools from time to time to imbibe the reading culture in students.

The second phase of the program took place at Emamic Model College, Ologuneru Ibadan with a lecture titled “Education as a catalyst for peaceful coexistence and social development” which was delivered by Dr. Emmanuel Tola Layode from Department of Philosophy, University of Ibadan.

The programme has Comrade Okekearu Fabian, the Secondmate of Jolly Rogers Deck, Obasuyi Stephen, the Buksaylor and a host of other Pyrates members in attendence.

Layode started by appreciating the school management for giving seadogs the opportunity to celebrate the International Day of Education with them. He then admonished the students by emphasizing that the citation of his achievements was mainly aimed at encouraging them that it is possible to achieve great feat in live.

He stressed that education is a formidable force against the darkness of ignorance and intolerance.

“It is a catalyst for fostering understanding, empathy, and unity among diverse communities, and plays a critical role in building a foundation for lasting peace.

“Education serves as a counterforce to curtail poverty, hate speech, discrimination, and violence and by fostering a culture of learning that promotes tolerance, inclusivity, and critical thinking, we can dismantle the foundations of hatred and intolerance in our society.

The programme featured students presentation centred on “Education, where The Future of Peace Lies” and presentation of gifts.
