Kidnappers who hacked a policeman, Simon Igba to coma in Jibi community, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State have killed the officer’s wife, mother-in-law and dumped their weeks old baby alive.
Jibi is a border community with Abuja, the Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that has recently faced incessant attacks by kidnappers.
Allnews.ng learnt that Mr. Igba and his family were attacked on Friday night, January 19, 2024 in their home. The assailants macheted him to coma and abducted his wife, his new-born baby and mother-in-law who came to take care of her daughter who put to birth after several years in marriage.
Our reporter also gathered that the kidnappers had demanded N100m ransom which was negotiated to N5m as at yesterday, Thursday morning.
A community source told Allnews.ng that Mr. Simon’s neighbours, family members and friends had started raising funds for the ransom before the sad news hit the community that the abductors of his family had killed them.
The source said his wife and mother-in-law were killed but the new-born baby was brought to a police station by a victim who was freed by the kidnappers.
The source also confirmed that the bodies of the women were recovered by the police and have now been deposited in a morgue, while the baby is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the FCT.
Efforts to get police comments on the development went unsuccessful as calls and text messages to the commissioner of police, Niger state command, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman got no response.
