Must read

The Nasarawa State Police Command, on Wednesday, said no ransom was paid for the release of the abducted chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, Safiyanu Andaha, on Tuesday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in an interview with PUNCH Online.

Mr Safiyanu was kidnapped alongside three others by unknown gunmen on New Year’s Day, Monday, in Ningo village, Akwanga LGA.

AFRIPOST had earlier reported the release of the abducted chairman, along with three others.

While responding to a text if truly a ransom was paid, the PPRO said, “No ransom was paid. The victim and the person the abductors contacted confirmed to us that no dime was paid.

“They were released at about 8.40 pm (Tuesday) due to sustained pressure mounted on them by our operatives deployed on their trail.”

It was earlier reported by some online newspaper that the kidnappers demanded the sum of N50m as a ransom for their release.

AFRIPOST had also reported that the PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, had mobilised personnel to go after the hoodlums and rescue the chairman and one other person who was kidnapped.
