New Year: Police issue warning against use of knockouts, other explosives

The Nigerian Police Force, NPF, has warned Nigerians against the use of knockouts and other explosives during the New Year celebrations.

The Police spokesman, Jigawa State Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam revealed this in a press statement signed by him.

He stated that adequate arrangements have been put in place to maintain law and order.

The statement read, “The Jigawa State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that security arrangements are put in place to ensure hitch-free festivities across the state.

“People in the state are advised to carry out their festivities within the provisions of the law as the Police will not hesitate to clamp down on any person trying to foment trouble.

“The ban on the use of knockouts /fireworks/bangers/firecrackers and other explosive devices during any celebration is still in force.”

The Command warned parents to advise their children/wards to refrain from the use of such devices capable of instilling fear in people, especially during the Yuletide.

The statement added that anybody flouting the order will be dealt with accordingly.
