An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by Tonye-Cole against Governor Siminalayi Fubara Rivers State.
Tonye-Cole of the All Progressives Congress, APC, wanted the Appeal Court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to declare him the winner of the March governorship election.
He had told the court that gov Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was still signing documents as Accountant-General of the State even after his nomination as the governorship candidate of the PDP.
He also alleged irregularities in the election, among other issues.
In October, the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal dismissed the petition, saying that the APC that sponsored Tonye-Cole had withdrawn the petition against Fubara’s victory.
But Tonye-Cole was unsatisfied with the Tribunal’s judgment and approached the appellate court.
