Nigeria vs Lesotho: Iheanacho new captain, Boniface, Awoniyi lead Eagles attack

Must read

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has picked the Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho to lead the Super Eagles out in today’s clash against Lesotho.

Iheanacho was appointed in the absence of the regular captain, Ahmed Musa, and assistant captain, William Troost-EKong.

Peseiro also stuck with his preferred 4-4-2 formation for his side’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Likuena of Lesotho.

He again stuck with Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho despite the criticisms that have trailed the latter’s performance in recent times, while Bright Osayi-Samuel will feature as a right-back, and Jamilu Collins will occupy the left-back position.

West Bromwich Albion’s Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey were picked as the two center-backs for the game.

Brentford’s Frank Onyeka and Fulham star Alex Iwobi will operate from the midfield.

Kelechi Iheanacho, who will captain the team, and Ademola Lookman are the two wingers, while Victor Boniface and Taiwo Awoniyi will lead the team’s attack.

The game which will be held at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo will kick off at 5 pm tonight.
