NLC strike: We will not stop until FG meets our demands – NLC Chair, Sunny James

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Akwa Ibom State, has vowed to continue with the indefinite Nationwide strike until the Federal Government of Nigeria addresses the demands of workers.

This was contained in a statement by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Sunny James while addressing striking workers who converged before the Idongesit Nkanga State Secretariat on Tuesday in compliance with the directive of the national body for an indefinite strike.

James stated that the action will continue till tomorrow and beyond pending when the federal government responds.

He said, “Workers in the state will ensure total compliance to the national body directive for an indefinite strike until the Federal Government meets with all demands of workers’’.

“It is an indefinite strike, tomorrow we will all assemble here. After that, we will come down to Akwa Ibom and meet with the Governor.”

He added that the labour union in the state will move around all offices in the state to enforce the nationwide strike as directed.

Meanwhile, banks, public institutions and schools have remained shut in compliance with the national strike action.

At the state secretariat, labour leaders were seen playing drums while workers were dancing to its tunes.

At the federal secretariat, the gate was seen open with a stationed operation quick response vehicle with security operatives on standby.
