Gov. Nwifuru dissolves Ekoli Edda caretaker committee, charges them to embrace peace 

Following the rising crisis among the people of Ekoli Edda autonomous community in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, the Executive Governor Rt.Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru at the meeting with the stakeholders of the community in his office at the government House at Ochudo Centenary City in Abakaliki charged the people of Edda Local Government especially Ekoli Edda community to embrace peace in order to ensure peace and tranquility in the area.

Governor  Nwifuru addressing the people of Ekoli Edda shortly after hearing from them on the disagreement arising from the resolutions of Ekoli Edda bound of hope Executives and other constitution of caretaker committee by the Council Chairman of Edda Local Government, Hon. Prince Chima Ekuma Nkama, charged the people to embrace peace, warning that any individual or groups that ferments crisis in any part of the state will be sanctioned.

The Governor also affirmed that Ekoli Edda two union executives called Ekoli Bound of Hope should be allowed to continue their administration till the 8th of December 2023, after which the local government Council Chairman alongside the stakeholders would decide whether to conduct election or appoint caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the community pending when elections will be conducted.

He again drew the attention of government appointees, warned them never to in any way use their offices to ferment trouble and charge Edda people to always respect constituted authorities, especially office of the Council Chairman.

The Edda Local Government Council Chairman. Prince Chima Ekuma Nkama, in his speech during the meeting, said his administration since assumption of office had made effort to unite the people of Edda, appreciating the State Governor for bringing peace to the Area.

The immediate past Chairman of the Local government, Bar. Eni uduma Chima, while speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting described the State Governor as a peace-maker who wants every leadership holder including all Ebonyians to emulate him, in making his administration succeed.

Bar. Eni Uduma also commended the Governor for bringing peace among the people of Edda, especially Ekoli Edda autonomous community, also promising to abide by the existing norms.

The president general of Ekoli Edda Bound of Hope, Chief Uka Mba Uka, on his part, said his administration has impacted meaningfully the lives of the people in Ekoli Edda. He thanked the governor for accepting that he and his cabinet should complete their tenure by December 2023. He assured the governor that he would strive towards uniting the people of Ekoli Edda by following all his guidelines.

Other stakeholders at the meeting included the honourable member representing Edda West constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nkemka Okoro Onuma, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Skill and Job creation, Hon. Elijah Oko Udu.

Others were government appointees, traditional rulers, stakeholders, youths, and women groups.
